Cedar Grove (Edgefield, South Carolina)

Cedar Grove is a historic plantation house near Edgefield, South Carolina, built between 1790 and 1805. This impressive two-story Federal style home features a striking white clapboard exterior, a high gable roof, and a double-tiered portico with intricate Adamesque details. Inside, visitors can admire unique architectural elements such as a barrel-vaulted hallway and beautifully carved mantelpieces, along with an early hand-painted French wallpaper in the front parlor. The surrounding landscape boasts tall cedars, old English boxwoods, and remnants of a rose garden designed by renowned botanist Andre Michaux. Notably, the boxwoods were sold to the Rockefeller family during the Great Depression for the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, Virginia. The property also includes original servant's quarters and kitchen. Cedar Grove was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and is currently owned by attorney Brian Branton.
