Dallas Zoo and Giants of the Savanna

The Dallas Zoo, founded in 1888, is one of the oldest major zoos in Texas and occupies more than 100 acres in south Dallas. In 2009 the zoo opened Giants of the Savanna, a large open-range exhibit designed to replicate an African savanna habitat for elephants, giraffes, and other species. The zoo cares for more than a thousand animals, runs conservation and education programs, and is a longstanding cultural destination for families and school groups.
