Wrigley Lodge

Wrigley Lodge, located at 509 N. Union in Chicago, Illinois, is a historic building originally constructed in 1891 as a butterine factory. Over the years, it has undergone several transformations, including serving as a margarine manufacturing site and later as a soap powder factory. In 1930, William Wrigley Jr. donated the building to the Salvation Army, which transformed it into a lodging house for the unemployed, later renamed Wrigley Lodge. The building has played a significant role in providing rehabilitation services, particularly for veterans and the homeless. It features a thrift store that has supported its operations. Despite its rich history, Wrigley Lodge has faced challenges, including being listed as one of Chicago's most endangered buildings, and the Salvation Army announced plans to sell the complex in 2019.
