Odeyto Indigenous Centre

The Odeyto Indigenous Centre, located on Seneca College's Newnham Campus in North York, Toronto, is a unique space designed to support Indigenous students. Its name means 'The Good Journey' in Anishinaabe, reflecting its purpose as a safe haven for students to connect with their culture and community. The building, designed by Gow Hasting Architects in collaboration with Two Row Architect, features an organic, canoe-inspired design that symbolizes the journey of knowledge. With its striking exterior of triangular zinc shingles and culturally significant interior elements, Odeyto hosts various Indigenous cultural events, ceremonies, and gatherings. The center also includes a kitchen for communal cooking, counseling offices, and study areas, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens that represent the natural biomes of Ontario. Recognized for its architectural excellence, Odeyto serves as a vital resource for the Indigenous student community, fostering a sense of belonging and cultural pride.
