Breed Street Shul

Breed Street Shul, located in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, is a historic former Orthodox synagogue that served as a central hub for the Jewish community from 1915 to 1951. Once the largest Orthodox synagogue west of Chicago, it played a significant role in the cultural and educational development of the area, including the establishment of the city's first Jewish parochial elementary school. The synagogue's striking brick structure, built in 1923, features unique architectural details and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After a decline in the Jewish population post-World War II, the building fell into disrepair but is currently undergoing restoration to serve as a museum and cultural center, reflecting its rich history and significance in Los Angeles.
