National Museum of African American History and Culture - architectural lattice facade

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, designed by David Adjaye in collaboration with other firms, opened on September 24, 2016. Its exterior is wrapped in a three-tiered bronze-colored metal lattice inspired by the Yoruban caryatid and West African architectural traditions, making the facade itself a prominent piece of public art. The building sits on the National Mall and has been widely discussed as an example of contemporary public architecture.
