Istana Lama

The Istana Lama was a historic palace located in Telok Blangah, Singapore, originally built in 1824 for Temenggong Abdul Rahman. This European-style mansion served as a residence for notable figures in the Johor Sultanate, including Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim, who administered his territory from this site. The palace was later repurposed into a hotel and a hostel before being demolished in 1954. Despite suggestions to convert it into a museum, it was sold to the Bata company, leading to the establishment of a shoe factory on the site. Today, the area is home to a condominium called Harbourlights, completed in 1997, marking the transformation of this once significant historical site.
