Sherwood Studio Building

The Sherwood Studio Building, located at 58 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, was an innovative artists' apartment building constructed in 1879. Known for its spacious studios and luxurious amenities, it featured large floor-to-ceiling windows, central heating, and an exhibition hall for receptions. The building attracted affluent artists and their families, becoming a vibrant community hub with an on-site café-restaurant. Despite its demolition in 1960 to make way for Hemisphere House, the Sherwood remains a significant part of New York's artistic heritage, reflecting the city's evolution and the lifestyle of its creative residents.
