Academy of Music (historic opera house)

The Academy of Music opened in 1857 and is widely regarded as the oldest continuously operating opera house in the United States. Its nineteenth-century auditorium and ornate interior have hosted opera, ballet, and other performing arts for more than a century and a half. The venue remains an active performance space in Philadelphia's cultural life.
