Boston Athenaeum

The Boston Athenaeum is an independent membership library and cultural institution founded in 1807, making it one of the oldest private libraries in the United States. Its Beacon Hill building houses reading rooms, exhibition spaces, and a collection of books, manuscripts, prints, and paintings. The Athenaeum preserves historic interiors and frequently mounts rotating exhibitions from its collections for scholars and the public.
