Samuel Elder House

The Samuel Elder House, located at 38 Rangeley Road in Winchester, Massachusetts, is a historic residence built in 1875-76 as part of an exclusive late 19th-century subdivision known as Rangeley Park. Designed in the Ruskinian Gothic style by architect George Dutton Rand, this 2+1⁄2-story brick structure features a striking polychrome facade and intricate trim elements. Although it was mistakenly believed to be the home of prominent lawyer Samuel Elder, the house is notable for its architectural significance and historical context within a high-end residential development. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989, it offers a glimpse into the affluent lifestyle of the era and the unique architectural styles of the period.
