It served as a vibrant hub for social and cultural events, hosting the first professional theater company in Canada and significant gatherings, including a notable party thrown by General James Wolfe before the Siege of Louisbourg. The building featured a variety of facilities, including a ballroom, public conveniences, and stabling, making it the principal hotel in Halifax. It played a crucial role in the city's early history, hosting auctions, theatrical productions, and civic ceremonies.
