Friedrichs-Waisenhaus Rummelsburg

Friedrichs-Waisenhaus Rummelsburg, established in 1702 by Frederick William I of Prussia, served as an orphanage and infirmary in Berlin, initially caring for military orphans. By the 1720s, it expanded to accommodate hundreds of children. A new facility was constructed in 1859, coinciding with the introduction of compulsory education in Prussia, which led to the establishment of a workhouse nearby. Unfortunately, the original building was destroyed during air raids in 1943, marking a significant loss in Berlin's historical architecture.
