Cuartel Simón Bolívar

Cuartel Simón Bolívar was a notorious detention and torture center used by Chile's secret police, DINA, during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. Located in the La Reina commune of Santiago, it was operational from 1974 to 1976 and was part of a campaign to eliminate political opponents, particularly targeting members of the Communist Party. The facility was overseen by Captain Juan Morales Salgado and housed around thirty agents who employed brutal methods of repression. Although the barracks have been demolished and replaced by a residential complex, a small memorial was established nearby in 2016 to honor the victims. The site is significant for those interested in human rights history and the legacy of political repression in Chile.
