Originally a hall house, it has been transformed into a row of cottages, with two notable for their stunning 15th-century murals. Discovered in 1953, these religious wall paintings are a rare example of pre-Reformation English Catholic art, believed to date from around 1470-1500. The murals depict significant biblical scenes and figures, showcasing intricate Tudor dress and vibrant colors. The building is thought to have historical ties to Ashridge Priory and may have served as a hospice for pilgrims. In the 1820s, it was repurposed as a cottage hospital. While currently privately owned, limited public access is available during special heritage events, making it a unique destination for tourists and researchers interested in medieval art and history.
