California State Building (Los Angeles)

The California State Building, an iconic 13-story Art Deco structure completed in 1931, once served as a hub for state offices in Downtown Los Angeles. Located at the bustling Civic Center, it was notable for its grand opening ceremony in 1932, attended by Vice President Charles Curtis and celebrated aviator Amelia Earhart. Despite its historical significance, the building was deemed structurally unsound after the 1971 Sylmar earthquake and was demolished in the mid-1970s. The site, previously home to the Larronde Block, reflects the dynamic architectural evolution of Los Angeles.
