Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library - Mies van der Rohe Design

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library was designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and opened in 1972 as the central branch of the District of Columbia Public Library. It is the only public library building in the United States designed by Mies and was a major example of modernist civic architecture in Washington. The library underwent a multi-year renovation and reopened to the public in 2020 with restored architectural elements and expanded public spaces.
