Sala Cecília Meireles

Sala Cecília Meireles is a renowned theatre located in the Lapa district of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, celebrated for its exceptional acoustics and traditional design. With a seating capacity of 670, it is a premier venue for chamber music. Originally built in the late 19th century as the Grande Hotel da Lapa, it underwent several transformations, becoming a cinema in 1948 and later, in 1965, a dedicated space for classical music. The theatre was extensively renovated in 2014, enhancing its facilities with a new auditorium and reception area. It has been under the direction of composer João Guilherme Ripper since 2004, making it a cultural hub for music enthusiasts and tourists alike.
