El Cortez

The El Cortez opened in 1927 and was the tallest building in San Diego upon completion; it remains a prominent historic building in downtown San Diego. The hotel has long been the subject of local ghost stories, including reports from employees and visitors of a so-called 'Lady in White' and unexplained noises. These stories have been recounted in newspapers and on ghost-tour itineraries. The accounts are part of local folklore and are treated as anecdotal rather than proven.
