Flamingo Hotel - Bugsy Siegel and mob financing

Opened in December 1946 by mobster Benjamin 'Bugsy' Siegel, the Flamingo Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip was financed in part by organized crime figures from the East Coast. Siegel's involvement in the project and his 1947 murder are central episodes in early Las Vegas mob history. The Flamingo became one of the Strip's first luxury resorts and a model for later casino development.
