2 Columbus Circle (Museum of Arts and Design)

Originally designed by Edward Durell Stone and completed in 1964 as the Gallery of Modern Art, the building at 2 Columbus Circle became widely discussed for its distinctive facade. It was substantially altered in a controversial renovation by Brad Cloepfil and reopened in 2008 as the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). MAD focuses on contemporary craft, design, and decorative arts and occupies the site facing Columbus Circle.
