Pullens Buildings

The Pullens Buildings, located in the Walworth area of London, are among the last surviving Victorian tenement buildings in the city. Built by local builder James Pullen between 1886 and 1901, the estate features ornate yellow stock brick facades and flat roofs that provide amenity space for residents. Originally housing 684 dwellings and 106 workshops, the estate has a rich history, including damage during World War II and a successful campaign in the 1980s to prevent demolition. Today, many flats are privately owned, with prices rising due to redevelopment in the Elephant and Castle area. The estate also hosts a variety of independent shops and workshops, and its architectural significance has made it a backdrop for films like The King's Speech and Allied. Visitors can explore the remaining yards, which are open to the public twice a year, showcasing local artisans and traders.
