The Broken Spoke - classic Austin dancehall

The Broken Spoke opened in 1964 and is one of Austin's best-known traditional dancehalls, operated for decades as a venue for country music and two-step dancing. The single-room wooden-floor hall hosts live country acts, regular dance lessons, and longstanding traditions such as country-style meals served during shows. The venue is widely cited in histories of Austin music culture as a surviving example of mid-20th-century Texas honky-tonk architecture and programming.
