South Mountain Park and Preserve - large municipal park and trails

South Mountain Park and Preserve covers more than 16,000 acres and is managed by the City of Phoenix, making it one of the largest municipally operated municipal parks in the United States. The park includes dozens of miles of multi-use trails used for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, and popular viewpoints such as Dobbins Lookout overlook the Phoenix metropolitan area. The preserve protects Sonoran Desert habitat and provides interpretive programs and seasonal events focused on desert ecology.
