Coit Tower Murals

Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill contains a large series of fresco murals painted in 1934 by a group of local artists working under the Public Works of Art Project. The murals depict scenes of California life, labor, and industry in a social realist style and attracted controversy at the time for some left-leaning imagery. The tower and its interior murals are open to the public and are a documented example of New Deal-era public art in San Francisco.
