Whitney Museum's Gansevoort Street building

The Whitney Museum of American Art relocated to a Renzo Piano–designed building at 99 Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District and opened there in 2015. The new building includes large flexible gallery spaces and outdoor terraces that frame views of the adjacent High Line and the Hudson River. The move transferred the museum's long-running programs, including the Whitney Biennial, from its former Madison Avenue home to a neighborhood associated with contemporary art.
