Jones House (Melrose, Louisiana)

The Jones House, built in 1847 and located along Cane River Lake near Melrose, Louisiana, is a historic gem listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1993. This house is significant for its exquisite Creole architectural style, featuring three elegant mantel/overmantel ensembles that are rare in the region, contrasting with the more common plain Creole houses. It is one of only two houses in Louisiana with such intricate designs and the only known surviving example of the lozenge-shaped design popular in French Creole architecture.
