Philadelphia Naval Shipyard (U.S. Navy Yard)

Established by the U.S. Navy in 1801, the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard was a major federal shipbuilding and repair facility for nearly two centuries and remained active until its closure as a naval base in 1995. The site retains historic drydocks, shipways, and industrial buildings that document evolving naval and waterfront engineering infrastructure from the 19th and 20th centuries. Since base closure, the former shipyard has been redeveloped as a mixed-use industrial and commercial campus while preserving many historic structures and shipyard features.
