Francia Great House

Francia Great House is a historical plantation house located in Saint George, Barbados, built in the late 19th or early 20th century by Frenchman René Mourraille. This architectural gem showcases a blend of French and Barbadian styles, featuring a triple-arched entrance and a sweeping staircase. The house is surrounded by beautifully landscaped English-style gardens filled with vibrant bougainvillea and hibiscus, and it houses a collection of antique mahogany furniture and early West Indian maps. Originally a plantation growing yams and sweet potatoes, it has since been transformed into a private school. The site is recognized by the Barbados National Trust for its architectural significance, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers alike.
