Seattle Underground (Bill Speidel's Underground Tour)

Bill Speidel's Underground Tour leads visitors through preserved subterranean storefronts and sidewalks beneath Pioneer Square that remained after much of downtown was rebuilt following the Great Seattle Fire of 1889. The tour interprets the buried street level of 1880s Seattle and explains the city's decision to raise street grades during reconstruction. The site and tour have been a long-running local attraction and a source of Seattle lore about the city's original street grid.
