Causeway Street Elevated removed during North Station project

The Causeway Street Elevated carried Green Line trains into the area around North Station from the early 20th century until it was taken out of service and dismantled in 2004 as part of the North Station/Big Dig-related improvements. The elevated structure was replaced by a below-grade alignment and a new transit tunnel, altering train approaches and pedestrian access at Causeway Street. Its removal reduced elevated rail infrastructure and enabled redevelopment around North Station.
