St. John's Episcopal Church - 'Church of the Presidents'

St. John's Episcopal Church Lafayette Square, often called the 'Church of the Presidents,' dates to 1816 and is immediately north of the White House. Tradition holds that many U.S. presidents have worshipped there, and the church has been used for official White House and presidential services. The claim that every president since James Madison has attended is part of the church's lore and is sometimes debated by historians, but the church's close association with presidents is well documented.
