Edificio Castromil

The Edificio Castromil, an eclectic architectural gem in Santiago de Compostela, was designed by Rafael González Villar and completed in 1926. Originally serving as a café-bar, it later became the headquarters for the Castromil bus company. Despite its cultural significance and calls for preservation, the building was controversially demolished in 1975 to make way for an underground parking facility. This event sparked widespread public outcry and highlighted the importance of historical heritage conservation in Galicia. Today, the site is part of the evolving Praza de Galicia, a central square that continues to seek its identity amidst modern developments.
