Fort Wayne (19th-century fort and museum)

Fort Wayne was constructed in the mid-1840s at the mouth of the Rouge River as a military fortification to guard access to Detroit and served as an active military post through the 19th and early 20th centuries. The preserved site includes officers' quarters, blockhouses, and exhibits detailing its roles during the Civil War and as an induction center in later wars. Today Fort Wayne operates as a historic site and museum hosting public events and educational programs.
