Tribute in Light

Tribute in Light is a commemorative public art installation consisting of twin vertical columns of light created by an array of powerful searchlights to evoke the former location of the Twin Towers. It was first presented in 2002 and has been displayed annually on the evening of September 11 from the World Trade Center site as part of memorial observances, with technical and logistical coordination by organizations including the Municipal Art Society and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. The installation is intentionally site-specific and is recognized as a recurring public art and memorial element in Lower Manhattan.
