Yamase Building

The Yamase Building, located at the intersection of Moana Road and Kaumualiʻi Highway in Waimea, Kauaʻi, is a unique historic site built around 1919 by a Japanese temple architect for Seiichi Yamase, a nisei son of Japanese immigrants. This structure is notable for its rare curved facade and Japanese-style architectural elements, representing the influence of immigrant culture on Hawaii's commercial landscape. It has served various purposes over the years, including housing a bank and several small businesses, and currently features a retail store and a sandwich shop. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, the building has withstood significant natural disasters and has been restored, making it an interesting stop for tourists and researchers interested in Hawaii's architectural heritage and immigrant history.
