Rev. M. L. Latta House

The Rev. M. L. Latta House, located in the historic Oberlin neighborhood of Raleigh, North Carolina, was a significant landmark as the last remaining structure from Latta University, a trade school for African Americans that operated from 1892 to around 1920. Built around 1905, this two-story Colonial Revival and Queen Anne style house served as the home of Rev. M. L. Latta, a former slave and founder of the university. The house showcased the wealth and status of the early 20th-century African American community in Raleigh. Although it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, the house was tragically destroyed by fire in 2007. Today, the site is designated for use as a park, preserving its historical significance for future generations.
