Bleak Hill (Callaway, Virginia)

Bleak Hill is a historic plantation house located near Callaway, Virginia, built between 1856 and 1857 by Peter Saunders, Junior. This Italianate-style brick dwelling, measuring approximately 40 by 42 feet, replaced an earlier house that burned down in 1830. The property includes several outbuildings dating back to around 1820, such as a brick law office, a summer kitchen, and a smokehouse, as well as two pole barns from the 1930s. Bleak Hill was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, making it a significant site for visitors interested in Virginia's architectural and agricultural history.
