Old Main (Pennsylvania State University)

Old Main, the iconic administrative center of Pennsylvania State University, is a historic building completed in 1930, replacing the original structure from 1863. Located in the Farmers' High School Historic District, it features a clock tower with chimes that play both Westminster Quarters and the Penn State fight song. The building is notable for its limestone construction, some of which comes from the original site, and for housing impressive frescoes by artist Henry Varnum Poor that celebrate the university's land grant history. A beloved mascot, Old Coaly the mule, contributed to its construction and has a preserved skeleton displayed on campus. Old Main is not only a hub of university administration but also a symbol of Penn State's rich heritage and community spirit.
