House of the Temple (Scottish Rite headquarters)

The House of the Temple was designed by architect John Russell Pope and completed in 1915 as the headquarters of the Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction of Freemasonry. Modeled in part on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the building houses an extensive research library on Masonic history. It continues to serve as the site for Scottish Rite ceremonial rituals and private Masonic meetings restricted to members. The building is recognized for its prominent Masonic architectural features in Washington, D.C.
