Tyden Farm No. 6 Farmstead Historic District

The Tyden Farm No. 6 Farmstead Historic District, located east of Dougherty, Iowa, is a significant agricultural historic district recognized for its rich history and unique architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, it features 24 resources including a large farmhouse built in 1910, a gambrel-roofed barn from 1936, and various other structures that reflect the evolution of farming practices. The farm was owned by Emil Tyden, a Swedish immigrant and inventor of the tamper-proof boxcar seal, who modernized farming methods in the area. Today, the farm is part of the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area, offering visitors insights into agricultural history through exhibits and tours.
