Potter's Tavern

Potter's Tavern, located at 49–51 Broad Street in Bridgeton, New Jersey, is a historic site built in 1770 and recognized for its architectural and political significance. It served as a vibrant gathering place before the American Revolution, notably hosting the publication of The Plain Dealer, New Jersey's first regular newspaper, in December 1775. The tavern was owned by Matthew Potter, a blacksmith, and is linked to prominent figures such as future governors Richard Howell and Joseph Bloomfield. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey in 2003.
