Stalybridge Town Hall

Stalybridge Town Hall, located in Greater Manchester, was a significant municipal building that served as the headquarters for the Stalybridge Borough Council. Opened in 1831, it was designed in a neoclassical style and featured a striking three-storey façade with a prominent portico. The town hall played a crucial role in local governance and was the site of important historical meetings, including discussions on the impact of the American Civil War on the cotton industry. In the 1880s, it was expanded to include a public hall and council chamber. Although it ceased operations as a government building in 1974 and was later destroyed by fire in 1989, the site has been transformed into a landscaped garden, with blue plaques commemorating its historical significance, including the general strike of 1842 and the life of reformer Rayner Stephens.
