Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House was the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester Repeating Arms fortune. Construction continued almost continuously from 1886 until Winchester's death in 1922, producing a sprawling, labyrinthine Victorian mansion with staircases to nowhere and oddly configured rooms. The property has long been the focus of legends and popular claims that it is haunted, which have been central to its identity as a museum and tourist attraction.
