Camelback Mountain (Echo Canyon Trailhead)

Camelback Mountain is a prominent 2,704-foot summit of Precambrian granite and schist rising abruptly within the Phoenix/Scottsdale urban area, notable for its camel-like profile. The Echo Canyon Trailhead provides direct access to steep hiking routes that climb the exposed rock faces to the summit. Its steep, isolated granite mass in the middle of a major metropolitan area is a widely noted geographic anomaly.
