Stirling (Reading, Pennsylvania)

Stirling is a historic mansion located at 1120 Centre Avenue in Reading, Pennsylvania, built between 1890 and 1892 in the Châteauesque style by architect Theophilus Parsons Chandler Jr. for industrialist James Hervey Sternbergh. Named after Stirling Castle in Scotland, this three-story, twenty-four-room residence features unique architectural elements such as tall chimneys and steeply pitched roofs. In the 1930s, it hosted high society events and was later inherited by Gertrude Sternbergh, a concert pianist and patron of the arts. Today, Stirling operates as a charming bed and breakfast, offering visitors a glimpse into its rich history and architectural beauty.
