Captain William Lucas and Robert Lucas House

The Captain William Lucas and Robert Lucas House, also known as Linden Spring, is a historic stone house located near Shepherdstown in Jefferson County, West Virginia. Built around 1783 for Captain William Lucas, a soldier of the Revolutionary War, the house is notable for being the birthplace of his son, Robert Lucas, who served as the Governor of Ohio and the first Territorial Governor of Iowa. The property has historical significance, as William Lucas was the descendant of early settlers in the area, and his wife was connected to James Rumsey, known for his steamship innovations on the Potomac River.
