Ferry Building clock tower and marketplace

The San Francisco Ferry Building at 1 Ferry Building opened in 1898 and its 245-foot clock tower was modeled after Seville’s Giralda bell tower; the building served as a major transit hub for the city’s waterfront. After decades of decline due to automobile and bridge travel, the Ferry Building underwent major restoration and reopened as a public marketplace and office building in 2003. The interior marketplace hosts local food vendors and an acclaimed farmers market, and the clock tower remains a prominent waterfront landmark.
