National September 11 Memorial - "Reflecting Absence"

The National September 11 Memorial, titled Reflecting Absence, consists of two large recessed reflecting pools set within the footprints of the original Twin Towers and was designed by Michael Arad and Peter Walker. The memorial opened to the public on September 11, 2011 and features bronze parapets inscribed with the names of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 2001 and 1993 attacks. The pools sit within the larger World Trade Center site and are a central element of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum complex. The memorial is maintained by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and the National Park Service oversees adjacent federal elements.
