Hop Exchange

The Hop Exchange, located at 24 Southwark Street in Bankside, London, is a historic Grade II listed building that opened in 1867. Designed by R.H. Moore, it was once the central hub for hop trading in the brewing industry, where hops were brought from Kent and stored in local warehouses. The building features a distinctive glass roof that illuminated the trading floor, allowing transactions to occur in natural light. While many similar exchanges have been lost to time, the Hop Exchange remains a unique architectural landmark, having survived wartime destruction and modernization, despite suffering a fire in 1920 that altered its structure. Today, it serves as office space, reflecting its historical significance in London's commercial history.
